New Lord Lieutenants’ Cadet for Staffordshire
A Ceremony held at the Council Buildings in Stafford marked the beginning of a busy year for a Staffordshire Army Cadet after being invested as the new Lord Lieutenants’ Cadet. His duties will involve accompanying the Lord Lieutenant on Royal visits and other high profile events.

Cadet Sgt Joseph Guess (16) from Hanbury joined the Army Cadet Force at Burton Detachment in 2006 and through hard work and dedication has worked his way up the ranks, becoming a Lance Corporal in 2007, a Corporal in 2008 and a Sergeant in 2009. He has achieved a marksman shooting classification, the Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s award and is busy working to achieve the gold. Having recently passed his 4 Star Army Proficiency Certificate he has been recommended to attend the Master Cadet Course held at the Cadet Training Centre at Frimley Park later this year. This outstanding cadet has just returned from the Easter Leadership course held at Nesscliff Training Camp in Shrewsbury, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Outside of the cadet organization, Sgt Guess has many other interests of which includes leading the children’s’ session at the local badminton club and helping out at the local church every week as a crucifer and server. Through his school, he is also involved in fund raising with World Challenge and has an excellent opportunity to go to Namibia and Botswana on a trek in July 2012.
Sgt Guess attends the sixth form at John Taylor Academy and is currently studying towards his A levels, of which he is on target to achieve good grades. He hopes to join the Regular Army in the future, possibly as an officer. He is a good all round young man and makes an excellent Ambassador for the Youth of Today always willing to lend a hand to those who need assistance.
